Stephanie's Favourites of the Week #1

Founder and Creative Director Stephanie Betts gives her review of her favourite things this week.  From spending time with her boys after her trip to New York to a pair of pre-loved Manolo Blahniks...

A Mediterranean Escape

Many of us like the idea of the Great British Holiday - it's great (we tell ourselves) - no planes, no airport security, no forgotten (or out-of-date) passports.  Just load the car and head off into the sunset of Cornwall/Norfolk/Dorset (delete as appropriate)...

Josephine Home Our Youngest Fan

When it comes to a good night's sleep, it's never too early to enjoy the very best bed linen!  And Bertie... officially our youngest fan ever (pictured above on his very first day home) seems to agree...

UK's Funkiest B&B

We love our collaborations with our boutique hotel clients.  They know that offering the very best night's sleep is key to making a guest's stay that extra bit special...

British May Fetes

May Bank Holiday brings with it the start of that quintessentially English event – the summer fete. More often than not – with the vagaries of the English summer – attire for these is as much likely to be winter coats and scarves as summer frocks an T shirts...

Happy Mother's Day

No doubt thousands of Fathers will be making emergency purchases on Saturday afternoon to keep in the good books.  There will be a huge run on petrol station flowers and chocolates.  If you're not careful, all that will be left will be firelighters and kindling wood...

Half term winter Sunday's

What to do on the filthiest Sunday of the year?

It’s the last day of half term and for those of us not having been to Megeve or the Maldives, a week may be a long time in politics, but it’s a  lot longer with two children and driving rain.  Do we treat the kids to a Thai for Sunday lunch – a bit too urban – a Pizza – yes – if we want to spend £50 on a couple of Margheritas, a small salad, dough balls, three colas and a coffee...

Gleneagles: a warm and welcoming stay

Gleneagles is a hotel with a huge reputation.  Statesmen, A-list actors and almost every major sports personality regularly come to stay and then there's us!  Although infinitely courteous, there is a relaxed way in which the staff treat every guest.  We got the feeling that we are not only hotel guests, but friends...

Getting Through Winter

Although we have seen a few shards of sunshine and even a touch of warmth in the sun, winter still has a long way to go...

January Blues

It’s dark from teatime to 8 am.  The weather is foul.  Christmas is over.  We are all being bombarded with advertisements, emails and flyers urging us to exercise and get back in shape...

No more 1970's velour!

Whatever you have been doing during the day, whether slaving over a hot computer terminal, dragging the children to yet another party or negotiating the supermarket aisles, what better way to unwind at the end of the day than luxuriating in the bath or under a fierce power shower...

Decorex 2014

We are just recovering from Decorex, the foremost exhibition for interior design, which took place this year in the wonderful surroundings of Syon Park in West London.

Breathing a sigh of relief

I think that every parent in the land is breathing a collective sigh of relief as our precious little darlings clutch their satchels, polish their shoes (umm - perhaps not!) and head out the door for the first week back at school.  Yes, the house seems empty and quiet but my what a relief - 6-8 weeks of "what are we going to do today" are finally over…

Last of the summer sun

The British seaside may lack the glamour of the French Riviera or the guaranteed sunshine of the Canary Islands, but it will always hold fond memories for me. Before the likes of EasyJet and Thomas Cook made foreign holidays affordable for millions more families, a Summer holiday by the coast was a staple for many British families...

The Game Fair 2014

Whenever I down tools and get out into the great British countryside, I am always struck by the wave of patriotism that hits me – it’s so easy to forget what a beautiful country we actually live in. More and more people are city dwellers these days, and when you’re caught up in the daily grind, England’s green and pleasant land can feel very distant indeed. That’s why I for one think we should all start making more of an effort to venture forth beyond the nearest motorway and celebrate everything our glorious countryside has to offer. So as you can imagine, it was with enormous pleasure that we drove out to the CLA Game Fair last month, a three day event that is all about reveling in our rural resources...

At Home at Harrods

Our luxury bed linen at Harrods has a new partner - we have teamed up with Savoir Beds in the world famous store’s bed linen department.

This is not our first collaboration with Savoir Beds, as we have recently collaborated with them in an iconic “in bed with Savoir” designer photo shoot, which showcased their latest headboards as well as Josephine Home’s latest throw collection...

Wedding Gift Woes

Back in 1966 when my parents got married, it was still unusual for a couple to live together before their wedding day, mostly because most couples were just so much younger when they got married than they are now. In 1970, the average age of a first-time bride was 22 and   now it’s 30. One of the knock-on effects of this is that most young people are already living independently, in a home they have been furnishing for years by the time they decide to tie the knot. Whereas in my parents’ case, their wedding day was an enormous windfall of crockery, kitchen appliances, table clothes and glassware, all for a home they had yet to move into...

Travel Like a Pro

I don’t know about you but I’ve lost count of the number of ‘out of office’ messages I’ve received this week. Half of Britain seems to have fled abroad, while the rest are probably struggling with a tent somewhere in Dorset as I write. Let’s just hope they all remembered to pack properly before they left, there’s nothing quite like arriving at your destination and discovering you’ve forgotten your phone charger, glasses and the book you’d been saving for months in anticipation of your sun lounger...

Top tips for a great day at Wimbledon Tournament

The traditions and peculiarities of that great British institution Wimbledon are what make it my highlight of the sporting calendar. Where else produces an annual ‘guide to queuing’ and welcomes visitors to the strains of a string quartet..?!

Given that England is the country of four seasons in one day, as the seasons do change, so you may wish to change the look of your bedroom.

You don't have to redecorate to give a fresh look. Here are just a few ideas that will give your bedroom a simple makeover...

Royal Ascot experience (personal perspective)

Ascot is just around the bend ( sorry for the pun in the first line) and,  fingers crossed, we may actually have some beautiful June weather to enjoy those strawberries and bubbles.

Where to picnic in the city

In green and pleasant England, we usually only have a few short months, or even weeks to enjoy al fresco dining  when the sun comes out – and so do the crowds. Trying to carve out a couple of square metres in heaving Hyde Park or Primrose Hill is not my idea of picnic heaven. If you know where to go though, there are still a few hidden gems in London that are yours for the taking, and your picnic basket...

What Makes Josephine Home Bedlinen so Special?

For many brands, 100% Egyptian cotton, traditionally the finest cotton in the world, is the staple component of good bed linen.

What makes Josephine Home bed linen special however, is not only that we try to use the finest Egyptian cotton as well, but that it is produced by the finest mills in Europe...

Josephine Home Grosgrain

It is almost impossible to distinguish one brand of white bed linen from another white bed linen, on line and even on a shop shelf, but our bed linen is instantly recognizable by its discreet "grosgrain" edging...

The Ducks Are Back!

We moved in to our house exactly a year ago, with a bevy of builders still in residence inside and a pair of ducks with their new brood of 13 ducklings outside...

Rainbows on the M25

As duties go, this had been a tough one. My octogenarian parents are basking in the sun in New Zealand for 3 months and meanwhile Stephanie boldly volunteers to coordinate the interior redecoration of their drawing room, last touched in 1978...

Mother's Day 2014

Remembering Mother's day is now a serious business. Gone are the days when  a bunch of slightly wilted carnations from  your local garage as a last minute's after thought on the way down the A3 to your mother's very slightly over cooked beef lunch will do...

January sun

My office faces due East. Everyone wants  a  south or west facing garden, but I love the early morning light.

Masterpiece London

Now in its third year, the superbly presented Masterpiece fair pulls together some of the most beautiful objects in the world. We went along to investigate.

Instagram Challenge: And the winner is…

Last month we launched a competition with South Place Hotel in East London to win a night’s stay plus bed linen and a throw from Josephine Home.

Find out who won...

A scent for all seasons

We are so excited to launch a new Josephine Home scented candle collection, which has been inspired by the British seasons.

Summer Sale

We have been having a little sort out and as a result we’re having a summer sale of our end-of-line items.

A Helping Hand

At times it seems, even nature can use a little help. With a dreadful winter spreading into an even worse spring, the bees, already under attack from disease, are slow to emerge and much of the blossom could now use a little human assistance.

Win a night's stay at South Place Hotel plus a set of bed linen and a throw from Josephine Home

We have joined forces with South Place Hotel to offer one lucky winner the chance to enjoy a VIP stay at the brand new luxury hotel, complete with champagne arrival and brunch the following morning - PLUS a set of Josephine Home bed linen and a Lambswool Angora Throw.

50% off Lampshades

We are currently offering 50% OFF our two exclusive designs in nine colours, to help you step into spring on a brighter note.

Adding texture with throws and cushions

Whether you want to change the overall look of a room or would like to add interest to your crisp, plain white bed linen, using a mix of throws and cushions is a good place to start.

20% off Easter Bank Holiday Promotion

Looking forward to the Easter break? To celebrate, we are offering an exclusive 20% off everything online until midnight on Monday 1st April.

Wrapping up in cashmere

Whether you prefer wrapping up in one on cooler nights, or choose it to make the perfect bedroom setting, cashmere throws are a household staple worth investing in.

Add colour to your bedroom this spring

With spring on its way, a fresh and inviting bed is a must. To emphasise the move into a new season and mood, lighten textures and colours – replace heavier blankets and the darker winter shades with spring-inspired hues, such as lavender or soft greens.

Happy Customers On Twitter

We pride ourselves on the quality of our products and our service, so it's great to see that we have happy customers out there!

New Children’s Twill Cotton Bed Linen

With our new children’s bed linen, our aim was to replicate our ‘grown-up’ range in child-friendly form as we keep hearing of little ones who simply won't budge out of parents’ Josephine Home beds.

Sample Sale Invitation

Join us from Monday 3rd December until Friday 7th December at our King's Road showroom for an exclusive sample sale.

A sneak preview of our new nightwear collection

Back in March we blogged about feeling inspired by the fantastic David Hockney exhibition at the Royal Academy in London and now we are pleased to reveal a sneak preview of our new nightwear collection.

The Independent Hotel Show

Phew! We have just finished unloading beds, tables, lamps and the rest from the Independent Hotel Show at Olympia in London (it was on the first floor so even more exhausting). This was the first of its kind and in my view it was a huge success.

How to make the perfect bed

At Josephine Home, we love spending time in bed so we thought we would share our secrets to creating the perfect bed.

Staying in Style at the Mandarin Oriental and South Place Hotel

We have recently been busy at work on two new hotel projects that we are keen to show off.

Visiting Cornwall: A Tale of Goodwill

The walk down Daymer Lane should take around four minutes, but with three children aged from four to seven (and a quarter), squabbling and regularly stopping to de-stone crocs, it takes close to fifteen.

Josephine Home Launches At Harrods, London

Over the last few weeks we have been busy setting up shop in one of the world’s most iconic stores, Harrods. We are thrilled that Josephine Home is now looking and feeling right at home on the second floor of this British institution.

A break in Provence

I have just returned from two weeks outside Avignon in Provence. Although clichéd, it really is true that colours seem almost visually digitally enhanced in this beautiful part of southern France. Crisp blues stand out against rugged landscapes and you wonder whether someone has turned up the contrast button somewhere.

A lesson in making things beautifully

While the media fills us with nothing but doom and gloom, with news of interest rate fixing and further quantitative easing, we here at Josephine Home, like so many small and mid-size British companies, are trying our very best to actually produce well-made and beautiful goods.

Introducing Gentlemen’s Corner

Josephine Home has always sought to promote the very best in British and European craftsmanship and we are now extremely pleased to be launching Gentlemen’s Corner.

Say hello to our brand new website

You have probably noticed already, but our website has had a makeover and we think it’s looking rather good.

The new design means that you can now shop our collections of bed linen and home accessories, or search for the perfect gift, all from the comfort of your own home.

There has been a right a hullabaloo over last week’s sale of Edvard Munch's The Scream: that the best masterpieces are now beyond the pockets of most museums; that these pieces will now only be within the grasp of super zillionaires, to be hidden in a vault along with the diamonds and the bearer bonds, lost forever from an adoring and expectant audience.

Well, unfortunately this is the way of the world.

From David Hockney to silk pyjama bottoms

To anyone who hasn’t yet had the chance to go, I strongly recommend visiting the latest David Hockney exhibition at the Royal Academy in London. Yesterday, my husband and I were lucky enough to be invited to a private viewing (very Maggie in Downton Abbey)—and what a treat it was!

Josephine Home launches at Lane Crawford, Hong Kong

We are delighted to announce that our bed linen is now available at the iconic Hong Kong department store, Lane Crawford.
